County Council Elections 2025
The County Council Elections will take place on Thursday 1st May 2025. Broxtowe Lib-Dems are contesting every seat in the borough area.
Pledges
We and our Lib-Dem colleagues across Nottinghamshire have agreed a set of five key pledges that will make Nottinghamshire better for local residents. These are:
1. Fix The Pot Holes: The roads in Nottinghamshire have been allowed to get into an appalling state. Urgent action is needed to begin the process of repairing our roads.
2. Protect the Green Belt: Developers want to build in a number of green belt areas across the County, including here in Broxtowe. We will be fighting to keep all development out of the green belt. There is plenty of space to build the necessary houses in brownfield areas.
3. Keep Councils Local: The government want to scrap local councils and the Conservatives are supporting them. This is anti-democratic and destroys your local voice. In Broxtowe it means that we would be dumped into a council based in Hucknall or into the city, with its millions of pounds of debt. Neither of these options will ensure that Broxtowe gets fair representation. We are campaigning to keep councils local.
4. Bring Honesty Back Into Politics: We are as fed up with politicians who say one thing then do the other as you are. We want councillors who will tell you the truth, and who will be active representatives for our local communities.
5. Bring Back Free Parking: The decision of the Labour administration in Broxtowe to scrap free parking in our town centres has been a disaster. Far less people now use our local shops. The council should be supporting local businesses, not harming them. We will bring back free parking as soon as possible.
